Alfred Harold Galin
Alfred H. Galin, age 89 of West Hartford, CT and Delray Beach, FL died peacefully at Hartford Hospital on July 12, 2017. Born on September 4, 1927, he was a loving son to Isadore and Rebecca (Lieberman) Galin. Al was predeceased by his best friends and brothers, Arthur, Julius and Ronald.

When Al returned from the war (WWII) he was introduced to the love of his life, his wife and life partner, Gloria Sigal while sitting at the counter at Maxwell Drugs having a milkshake and fries, and they were inseperable ever since. On September 7th,  they would have celebrated 70 years of marriage.

Al had an enormous love of country and served in the Atlantic and South Pacific on a destroyer escort named USS Stockdale as its radar and sonar man. He was so proud to be a member of “the greatest generation” and to have had an opportunity to serve his country. Al was a true hero.

Al began his career at General Electric Company and at the same time worked as an auxiliary police officer in the Town of Windsor. He loved serving the citizens of Windsor so much, he resigned his position at GE and became a full time police officer. Soon after, he was promoted to the position of detective and after his first bout with bypass surgery, he was forever known as “Alfie, the defective detective”. He was a life long member of the DAV, VFW, American Legion and ARRL (ham radio).

There was never a computer made that Al did not love to play with. He had 7 of them and could always be found surfing the net or downloading movies on one of them. He also loved listening to music from the 40s and cheering on the New York Yankees.

Besides Gloria, Al leaves behind his children, Gerri (Larry) Wile, Martin (Donna) Galin and Dorie (Randy) Bobrow. His grandchildren, Brian and Kenny (Wendy) Decker, David (Ali) and Kevin (Kristin) Galin, Kimberly (Jason) DiBella and Mindy (Jeremy) Jason. His seven great grandchildren, Isaiah, Zoe, Desmond, Jack, Nate, Avery, and Ben.

A graveside funeral service will be held at the Fairview Cemetary, 200 Whitman Ave, West Hartford, CT on Sunday, July16th at 11:00 a.m . Shiva will follow at the home of Gerri & Larry Wile, 8 Winged Foot Blvd, Bloomfield following the service until 8:00 p.m.

The family wishes to thank Al's friends and staff at the Brookdale-Chatfield independent living and also to the entire medical staff at Hartford Hospital for their excellent and compassionate care during his hospital stay.
