Edythe Blumenthal Greenspon
Edythe Blumenthal Greenspon, 95 of Old Saybrook, formerly of West Hartford passed away on August 9, 2017 at Hospice of Branford CT. She was predecesed by the love of her life, Dr. Benjamin Greenspon whom she married in 1945.

Edythe was born in Hartford CT to Joseph Blumenthal and Katie Kagan Blumenthal. She was a graduate of Hartford High School followed by the Hartford Hospital School of Nursing in 1943. She worked as a Registered Nurse and attended Columbia University where she studied Public Health Nursing.

Edythe was an adventurer, world traveler, and recognized as an accomplished artist. She and her husband Ben were skiers and enjoyed many downhill expeditions on multiple continents.

Other than the love she had for her family and her pursuit of continuous education, Edythe's passion was expressing herself through her Art. She created hundreds of beautiful works in multiple styles and genres, from drawings, water color and oil paintings, to sculpture and photography.

In 1986 She received a Bachelor of Arts degree and in 1992 at the age of 71 she then received her Masters of Arts at Central Connecticut State University. In 1990, she held her thesis show entitled Figures in Movement at the West Hartford Art League.

Edythe shared her many talents through art shows and giving away many pieces which are prominently displayed and adored in the homes of her loving family and friends. She continued her interest in art until weeks before her death, painting portraits, landscapes and creating assemblage sculptures.

Since 1994, Edythe volunteered for the International Support Group Emotions Anonymous. AE is a program based on the AA concept providing support to people suffering from anxiety, depression, and other emotional issues.

Edythe was a long standing member of the Jewish Registered Nurses and a member of the Beth Hillel Synagogue until she relocated to Old Saybrook.

Edythe is predeceased by her two sisters and three brothers. She leaves three loving daughters, son-in-laws, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren, all of whom will continue to share her love and appreciation for art that she shared and nourished throughout her life.

Funeral Services will be held graveside at the Beth El Temple Cemetery in Avon, CT on August 10 at 2 pm. Arrangements provided by Weinstein Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford CT 06405.
