Carrie Goldman Simon
Carrie Goldman Simon, 60 years of age, of West Hartford, CT, passed away on May 18th. The beloved wife of Melvin Simon, she was born in Brooklyn, NY and was the daughter of Joseph and the late Sondra (Cohen) Goldman. Carrie received her B.A. in Art Education from NYU and her Master's degree from CCSU. Carrie was an art educator for over thirty years, principally at Manchester High School. Following her retirement, Carrie was a docent at the New Britain Museum of American Art. Throughout her life, Carrie was an accomplished and prolific painter, sculptor, and ceramist. Most recently, Carrie's paintings were exhibited in a solo show, Sondra's Garden, at the Chase Family Gallery at the Mandell JCC of Greater Hartford. Carrie advocated for the eradication of hospital borne infections, testifying before the U.S. Congress and the Connecticut State Legislature. She also served as a public member of the Connecticut Board of Examiners for Nursing. In addition to her husband and father, Carrie is survived by her daughters, Danielle Simon of West Hartford, Kira Simon of New York City, and Talia Simon of Philadelphia; her sisters, Cheryl Friedman of Roslyn, NY and Rina Schunk of Ardsley, NY and their husbands, Mark Friedman and Ted Schunk; and brothers in law, Ken Simon of West Hartford, CT and Chet Simon of Manhasset, NY and their wives, Pam Simon and Dana Getz.

Funeral services will take place at 2:00 pm on Tuesday May 22nd in the Sanctuary of The Emanuel Synagogue, 160 Mohegan Drive, West Hartford, CT with Rabbi David J. Small and Cantor Sanford Cohn officiating. Interment will follow in The Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery, 1361 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield, CT. Immediately following the interment, the family will receive relatives and friends at the Emanuel Synagogue for a meal. Shiva will take place at the home of the Simon Family on Tuesday from 7:00-9:00 p.m.; and Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday from 1:00 pm-4:00 p.m. and 7:00 pm-9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Carrie and Mel Simon Fund at The Emanuel Synagogue, the New Britain Museum of Art, or the Canton Art Guild.
