Joan (Samett) Rivlin
Joan Sheila (Samett) Rivlin, 80 years of age, of South Windsor, CT, passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2018. She was the beloved wife of Leonard Rivlin. They would have celebrated their 61st anniversary one month from today. Born on October 15, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Max and Libby (Paletsky) Samett.

In 1955, Joan graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Brooklyn, New York. Despite living in four other states, Joan always remained a New Yorker at heart and kept her New York accent. In addition to being a stay at home mom, Joan worked at Aetna and The Hartford as an administrative assistant.

Joan’s main interest was art. She was a self-taught artist who excelled in drawing life-like portraits. Joan’s art work was recognized on many occasions including Art League Shows. Later on, Joan branched out to other types of art while attending classes at MCC. Her greatest accomplishment was designing the logo for the East Hartford Bicentennial in 1983.

Joan Rivlin will always be remembered for how passionately she loved her family and friends, her kind spirit, and her love of art, music and dance. Everybody loved Joan.

In addition to her husband, Joan is survived by her two daughters, Michele Karasik and her husband, Bruce, of South Windsor, CT and Lisa Lanteri and her husband, Joseph, of South Windsor, CT as well as her five beloved grandchildren: Marisa and Sarah Karasik and Kara, Joshua, and Jessica Lanteri and extended family and friends. In addition to her parents, Joan was predeceased by her sister, Marlene Jackowitz.

Funeral services will take place at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 26, 2018 in the Beth Olam Cemetery, 75 Edith Road, Vernon, CT with Rabbi Alan Lefkowitz officiating. Immediately following the interment, the family will receive relatives and friends at 35 Heatherwood Drive, South Windsor, CT. Afterwards, family and friends can gather for Shiva/Calling Hours at 19 Peach Tree Lane, South Windsor, CT beginning Thursday evening 6-8:30pm, Friday 2-4pm, and Sunday-Wednesday 2-4pm and again at 6-8:30pm. There will be an evening service each of these days at 7pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
