Clara (Greenberg) Sowalsky
Clara (Greenberg) Sowalsky, 102 years of age, of West Hartford, CT, passed away peacefully at her home on February 3, 2019, after a short illness, with her family by her side. She was the widow of Meyer S. "Mickey" Sowalsky. Born in Albany, NY, she was the daughter of the late Adolf and Rachel (Hershkowitz) Greenberg. She was a graduate of Weaver High School, an owner of Bishop Travel Service in West Hartford, and a devoted member of Beth El Temple of West Hartford for more than 60 years. She selflessly dedicated her life to her family and friends and was an inspirational family matriarch, epitomizing in every respect the "Eishet Chayil," Woman of Valor (Proverbs 31:10-31). She contributed to countless philanthropic causes, was an active member of Beth El Temple’s KNITzvah group, and had been an energetic volunteer for many years at The Hebrew Center for Health and Rehabilitation in West Hartford, where – at age 97 - she received the award of "Volunteer of the Year."

She leaves her beloved three children, Cheryl S. Rodrick of West Hartford, Joel M. Sowalsky and his wife Jan Glassman of Brookline, MA, and Rabbi Howard Sowalsky and his wife Dora of West Hartford; her dear brother, Harold (with Madeline) Greenberg of Delray Beach, FL, and sister, Edythe Day of Boynton Beach, FL; 11 cherished grandchildren, Andrew (with Danielle) and Robert Batchelder, Elizabeth (with Matthew) Grande, Kathryn (with Paul) Schaeffer, Emily (with David) Kieval, Jessica (with Daniel) Trujillo, and Adam (with Jessica), Joshua (with Suzanne Chipkin), Richard (with Stephanie), Hannah and Joseph Sowalsky; and nine treasured great-grandchildren, Samuel and Olivia Batchelder, Catalina Grande, Ella, Mickey and Asher Schaeffer, Mira and Yonatan Kieval, and Ari Sowalsky.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford, with Rabbi James Rosen officiating. Interment will follow at the Wolkowysker Society Cemetery, Tower Avenue, Hartford. Shiva will be observed at her late home, 193 Brewster Road, West Hartford. After the funeral, services will be held at 5:00 p.m. with visiting hours until 6:00 p.m. On Wednesday and Thursday, visiting hours will be 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., and 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with services at 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. On Friday, visiting hours will be 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. with services at 7:00 a.m. On Saturday, visiting hours will be 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with services at 7:30 p.m. On Sunday, visiting hours will be 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., and 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with services at 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. On Monday, services will be at 7:00 a.m.
