Harriett (Mishkin) Atkins
Harriett Atkins, nee Mishkin, 91, died peacefully surrounded by her family on November 10, 2019. She was born in Hartford and resided in West Hartford for the past 58 years. Harriett graduated from Weaver High School, married, and was a devoted mother to five children. She also spent over twenty years working in banking, retiring from Fleet Bank. Harriett is survived by her children, Betsy Mitchell of Punta Gorda, FL (and her husband Scott Mitchell), Jodie Barbour of Bellingham, WA (and her husband Bruce Barbour), Stephen Atkins of West Hartford (and his wife, Dorena Atkins), and Dan Atkins of Burlington, CT (and his wife Debbie Atkins). She is also survived by a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Hank and Maryjane Atkins of Bloomfield, her ex-husband Donald Atkins of St. Petersburg, FL, and her brother, Jack Mishkin of Bloomfield, CT. Harriett also is survived by her 10 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, many nieces and a nephew. She was predeceased by her daughter, Andrea Atkins, her sisters Mary Fabian and Lilian Roznar, and her brother Max Mishkin. Harriett will be remembered for her devotion to family and friends, her welcoming nature, and her kindness to all. She will also be remembered for her artistic sensibilities, which gave her an appreciation of all things beautiful. The family will honor her life in a small, private gathering.
