It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Alan Israel Leibowitz at 76 years old. Alan grew up in Ocala Florida, the son of Rose and Bob Leibowitz. He graduated from Ocala High School in 1965 and did his undergraduate years at the University of Florida in Gainesville Florida. Alan received his JD from Georgetown University Law School in 1972. Upon graduation Alan worked at the FTC in Washington DC where he met his wife, Rosalind Leibowitz. They were married for 52 years. In 1976 Alan moved to Hartford, Connecticut where he took a job with the corporate office of United Technologies. Following his tenure at UTC, Alan become licensed in investments and securities and went to work for Advest Financial Services.
Alan was a devoted father to his two sons David and Michael. He especially loved being a soccer coach for Michael’s travel soccer team. He also looked forward to the family’s annual ski vacation in Vail, Colorado. Alan loved to travel and was an avid reader, particularly fond of British mysteries. He also loved to bake bread and always spoiled his friends and family by baking his delicious banana bread.
Alan was an active member of his community, serving on the Boards of Connecticut Opera and Temple Beth Israel. He also served as Chairmen of Israeli bonds.
Alan is survived by his wife Rosalind, his sister Roslyn “Bunny” Weinstein of Bethesda, Maryland, Dr. Henry Leibowitz of Atlanta, Georgia. His sons, David Leibowitz of Milan, Italy and Michael Leibowitz of Denver, Colorado and their wives Rebecca and Annie. He also survived by his eight precious grandchildren, Ari, Sofia, Max, Giulia, Carolina, Bowie, and twins Bianca and Letizia.
