Alexander Menzer, M.D., 91, a pediatrician for 45 years in West Hartford, died January 22 at his home. Dr. Menzer was born in Vienna, Austria and grew up there. He began his medical training in Vienna and because of WWII, he finished medical school in Basel, Switzerland. He married Alice Theresa Cahn in 1946 and they came to the U.S. in 1950. He completed his medical residency at Hartford Hospital and then started a private pediatric practice in West Hartford which thrived for 45 years. Dr. Menzer was a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Connecticut Medical Society. He was also a life-time member of Congregation Beth Israel in West Hartford. He was married to his wife, Alice, for nearly 60 years. Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Marion Menzer Dinitz and her husband Harold Dinitz of Potomac, MD; and Karen Ullian, M.D. and her husband Michael Ullian, M.D. of Charleston, SC. He also leaves three grandchildren, Shera Dinitz of Potomac, MD; and Naomi and David Ullian of Charleston, SC; and a brother Malcolm Martin, M.D. and his wife Arline Martin, M.D. of Bethesda, MD. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 26, 2006 at 11:00 AM in the Silberman Memorial Chapel at Congregation Beth Israel, 701 Farmington Ave., West Hartford, with Rabbi Stephen Fuchs officiating. Interment will follow at Beth Israel Cemetery, Hartford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America in New York, NY and to the VNA Health Care, Inc. in Hartford.
