He enjoyed outdoor activities, swimming, running, lifting weights, and his family. He cared about the environment and enjoyed going for walks. He had a great sense of humor and created nicknames for himself, “Hap Appleton” (because he said he felt happy) and his wife, “Sweetie Appleton.” He loved vacationing with his family in Cape Cod, Atlantic City and the Poconos.
Alex is survived by his wife and soul mate Laney, their sons Zachary and Joshua; his sister Betsy (Isaac) Kyne; their children Eric and Kimberly; his nieces Erica and Suzie; his nephew Jacob.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30am, Thursday, December 13, 2012 at United Synagogues of Greater Hartford, 205 Mohawk Drive, West Hartford, CT. Burial will follow at Hartford Mutual Society Cemetery in East Granby. Arrangements are being handled by Weinstein Mortuary in Hartford.

To Laney, Zack and Josh,
Please know that although we cannot attend the funeral service
for Alex we will be thinking of you and all the good memories
we shared over the many years. He was a person of genuine integrity and high values who cared about people.
We will miss him and exchanging emails about the state of the world (and country) of which he shared quite emphatically.

Please accept my deepest sympathy on the loss of Alex. Alex was a close friend of mine and we grew up together in the same neighborhood in New Britain. Alex was fun to pal around with and a good friend. It is hard to believe he is gone. He will be sorely missed by all and may Alex rest in peace. Gary

Of all the aquaintances, friendships and Friends I have had, Alex, you were one of the best...a true friend. I truly never had more enjoyment in the company of another than you. We never ran out of things to do. We laughed until we could laugh no more and then we laughed again. Although many years have passed since those days, you never left my mind. My heart goes out to your family,Laney, the kids, and especially Betsy. To my Friend Alex, we shall meet again. Lovingly, Ben

Very saddened to hear the news of the passing of Alex, better known to me as Zach's Dad. The times I remember him he was always in a good mood and very reserved, yet I knew he had an outgoing side. I would see him all the time walking in Bishop's Corner and think "There goes Zach's Dad!" I could tell that he carried himself very well and was happy, especially with his family. I'm Glad I was able to attend the morning service and to see my friend, Zach.

Alexander was my uncle. My father's brother. I did not know my uncle very well, but I am sad that he is gone.

Laney, Betsy, Zack & Josh:
I am still in shock.Alex and I just had coffee together and as always, shared a lot of laughs. He was a sweetheart of a guy with many friends, especially from the New Britain Y where he was a regular. I will remember the fun times that I shared with Alex at Temple B'Nai Israel Hebrew School and playing basketball in the Church League at the New Britain Y. He will be greatly missed by all of his friends.

Please accept our heartfelt condolences on the untimely death of Alex.
We know what a long, trusted friend he was of my brother,
Bill. I always enjoyed reading Alex's pithy emails, commenting on world affairs. Alex had a keen mind and good soul.
