Galin

Obituary

Alfred H. Galin, age 89 of West Hartford, CT and Delray Beach, FL died peacefully at Hartford Hospital on July 12, 2017. Born on September 4, 1927, he was a loving son to Isadore and Rebecca (Lieberman) Galin. Al was predeceased by his best friends and brothers, Arthur, Julius and Ronald. When Al returned from the war (WWII) he was introduced to the love of his life, his wife and life partner, Gloria Sigal while sitting at the counter at Maxwell Drugs having a milkshake and fries, and they were inseperable ever since. On September 7th,  they would have celebrated 70 years of marriage. Al had an enormous love of country and served in the Atlantic and South Pacific on a destroyer escort named USS Stockdale as its radar and sonar man. He was so proud to be a member of “the greatest generationâ€

While I didn't know Al very well personally, I feel like I did through his brother, Julius. Julie, was my loyal president, unfailing confidant and friend for a long, long time. His loving wife Gert, and three caring and brilliant sons, Alan, Scotty and Jeffrey all are par of a legacy that touches Al and has enriched my life and given me more than they know.
My heart goes out to all those who are grieving for Al.

We wish we could be with you this morning, to say a proper good-bye to Al, the neighbor who became a friend after we met on the third floor at Chatfield, about a year ago. Discovering that his lovely wife was Gloria, Claire's childhood chum, sealed the deal for real. We are missing him already..

I still carry fond childhood memories of our family visits to West Hartford. It was an extra treat to hop over from Auntie Frum's house to visit you, too. Al was a neat guy and I know he'll be missed. Sincerest sympathy to all of you.

Love all very much; so sorry I wasn't able to attend today. Out of all my uncles, Uncle Al was the mysterious one for me. He was the policeman that seemed so quite when I was around. I have fond memories of staying with him and Aunt Gloria. My children and I are so thankful for the time we had together in Florida when Rachael graduated college. I am so sad for the family, but like Dorie said, the boys are having a big party in heaven. I am happy they are together again.

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. Isaiah 41:10

God bless,
Debbie

My condolences to Gloria and all of Al's children, grandchildren and family. If there's a day when the internet seems a little slow, rest easy knowing it's probably Al doing what he loves, tinkering with the latest version of Windows or downloading movies for his friends! Reading through Al's history, I have even more respect for whom I already knew was a great man.

Wish the whole family could have been there to pay our last respects. Having Al down here in Florida with me for the last 10+ years has given me that branch to family that I missed being so far from CT and I am sure that Al and Gloria missed being so far too. When Ju-Ju passed, having Al nearby was comforting to me selfishly to still have that Galin connection to that generation close to me. Al was famous to me for his Ben Who? and him and I always teased each other to make them look at their shirt and then bloop them in the nose. I have passed this on to the generations under me, and will remind them always it was Uncle Al who this is attributed to. I will deeply miss his sense of humor, and those who knew him well knew that under his rough grumpy facade there was a big softy in there who adored his family and he will surely be missed by all. Al's passing closes a chapter of the Galin Boys from the WW2 generation, some passed long ago now, but all had larger than their stature personalities, and Al will be missed. Sending my love from the Florida Galins to the CT Galins!
Love,
Ben Who
