I just today (10/3/2011) realized that Al was gone. I'm so sorry I didn't know sooner.

What a lovely person Al was. After hearing from him for years, I met Al and Evie in 1999 at one of the last reunions that they had. Great family, and so glad I did that. When I was last up in the Northeast visiting my cousin Fran Perler, we stopped in to see Al and have supper, and of course we had a lovely visit. I'm so glad we made the effort to do that.

Al, you will be missed.

Al (and Evie) were good friends and neighbors for sixteen years at Seabury. Al always had a frienly word, or a joke ready, whenever you met him. Their door was always open,
Al sitting at the computer, Evie lying on the couch reading, classical music playing softly in the background. He would ask you to come in, so he could show you something he was working on. Innumerable times I went to him asking for help with a computer problem, or some request and he wwould persist until he found the answer. He was there for us, whether it was taking my husband to the hospital, where I had gone in an ambulence, or printing something I had requested, or sending home-made birthday cards. We were all recipients of his sense of humor, whether in person or by e-mail. He had a kind word for everyone and I never heard him say an unkind thing about anybody.

We were happy for him, when sometime after Evie's untimely death
Penny came into his life. He found a soul-mate in his love for classical music.

Al was a gentle and kind man, always ready with a smile,a warm greeting and encouragement. He loved his family and family gatherings. He was generous with his time ,friendshp and gifts.

Al was truly a MENSCH.

Our thoughts are with his family and Penny and we thank God for Al's life among us.

Al was my very dear friend and will be greatly missed. He did
so much for me and for the Weaver Class of l951, making up invites for our reunions and always being there when I needed him, with problems on the computer. I will miss the wonderful Jewish music, stories, articles, history he would send me on the
computer. Mostly, I will miss this wonderful man. He will always remain with me. To know him was to love him.

Rabbi Samuels did an excellent job today, but look at the material he had to work with! Although we have known Al and his family for over 30 years, there were a few facts today that came out that we hadn't known about. We thought he was only being nice to his neighbors with the Santa Claus suit and the green bagels, but as it turns out, there was a lot more to the stories! Anyway, if I had to pick a song that says how Al lived his life, it would be L'Chaim from Fiddler on the Roof - TO LIFE! When we see Lee and Susan, which we hope will be soon, we can share some stories of John's mother's death, which pretty much confirms what we already know - there is life after death, and Al is sitting on a silver lined cloud somewhere doing just what he's always done. Just can't share it with us anymore, but we know that he is having fun re-connecting with those people who died before. I can't tell you how many lives he's touched just by doing his email things, never mind the more personal approach!

Awesome.

I only new Al for @9 months. I picked him up from dialysis for ITN. We hit it off right away as we shared a cultural background. Al loved to talk about his family and friend. I loved hearing his stories and sharing a laugh. When I was asked "Did I have time to pick up Al", I always said yes. He asked me in to his home after a ride and showed me around; pointing out the wonderful pictures and sharing memories. I will miss him.

We are sorry to hear of Al's passing. For over fifty years we enjoyed his friendship in business on insurance matters and socializing with him on a personal level. We will miss his humor, kindness and integrity. He loved his family, community, and friends and will be missed by all who knew him.

Lee, Jeff And Barry - We are so sorry to hear about Dad. I had to sit back and think, I knew your Dad from the days of Manny's Deli on Blue Hills! He sold me my first car insurance policy. I will always remember his quick wit and how he always, after a big smile greeting, had to throw a joke out to you! I know you're suppose to want to follow your Father in life but, I hope I can enjoy life the way Al enjoyed life! Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the whole family and may Al be comfortable and rest in peace.

so long, uncle al...no more funny stuff at the dinner table, no more crazy business cards, no more - Uncle Al the kiddies pal...I'll remember grandma yelling at us because you were making me nuts at the dinner table and she would tell us we couldn't sit next to each other any more cuz we made too much noise...I'll remember the green bagels for St Patrick's day and the candy canes for the holidays...I'll remember all the home movies and daddy's "plucked chicken on the office couch, the superman phone booth, bobbing head duck on the office mantel, grampa's barber chair and all the rest of the quirky items in your office that made people laugh....I'll miss you Uncle Al, Love, Terry-Jean

Al (and Evie) was a wonderful friend and neighbor for 16 years. Always ready to help in any situation, driving my husband to the emergency room, when I had gone in an ambulance, helping with many, many computer problems, loaning us classical C.D.'s.
following up on any question asked of him. His door was open most of the day and if you walked by, he would ask you in. He would be at the computer, music on softly and Evie reading on the couch.
After Evie's sudden death, we were happy, when Penny entered his life and enriched it, especially the musical events they shared.

And then there was the pride in his family and the closenes as a family. And finally he surprised himself by his comittment to Chabad.
Perhaps the best and final thing to say about Al is
HE WAS A MENSCH!

We thank God for his Presence among us and express our condolences to his family and Penny.
