Alice

(Estren)

Margolis

Obituary

Alice Estren Margolis, 89, of West Hartford, beloved wife of her late husband Herbert Margolis, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, March 17, 2017. Alice was born on September 12, 1927 in New Haven, CT. She was the daughter of the late Abraham and Rose Estren and is survived by her son, Hank Margolis (Elizabeth), and her daughter Lynn Dobb (Jerry). She was pre-deceased by daughter, Susan Hyams, and brother, Joe Estren. She is also survived by: her sister, Lillian Liberman; grandchildren, Eli Hyams (Katie) and Nadine Dobb; great-grandchildren Sebastian and Eva Susan Hyams; brother-in-law, Edward Perry; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. Also considered close family, Alice leaves behind Jeffrey Hyams, his wife, Deborah and son, Alexander, as well as Noreen Brown and her sons. The family is very grateful for the loving care provided to Alice by Amanda Alphonse-Felicien. Alice graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1949 and was an avid UConn basketball fan. Throughout their 62 years of marriage, Alice and Herb were generally recognized as one of the cutest couples ever, and she is surely very happy now that they are reunited. Her passion was cooking and entertaining friends and family. Her deserts, particularly her apple pies, were legendary. Alice worked for 30 years as a dietitian at Saint Francis Hospital where she made many life-long friends and completed her career as Assistant Director of Food and Nutrition. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 20 at 12:00 PM at the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford and will be immediately followed by burial at the Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery in Wethersfield. Shiva will be held Monday through Wednesday evening from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM at the family home. Donations can be made to the Susan Hyams Fund, National Multiple Sclerosis Society of Connecticut Chapter, 659 Tower Avenue, First Floor, Hartford, CT 06112-1269.

Picking up your Passover baked good, going to the volunteer recognition event and dinner, walking into your house and seeing you in the kitchen, phone conversations, all our visits when "the kids" were little, Passover at Buby and Papa's, calling and asking you about a recipe, always hearing you call me Knaidel. And the list goes on and on. I love you and will miss you always

We shared many wonderful memories of over fifty years with the Margolis family, who were more than just our neighbors but dear friends.Alice was devoted to her family, and her disposition was as sweet as her baking! Although we cannot be with you today, you are in our thoughts and we send our deepest sympathies to you all. With love, Mark and Sandy
