Arline Iris Leichtman Glotzer, 90, of West Hartford, CT, and Boston, MA, passed away peacefully on Friday (May 12, 2023) surrounded by loved ones. Born in Bridgeport, CT, Arline was the daughter of the late Samuel and Helen Leichtman. She attended the University of Connecticut, completing her BS in Education at the University of Bridgeport at the age of 21. Passionate about literature and teaching, Arline continued her career as a teacher when she moved to West Hartford in 1957 after marrying her devoted husband, Mortimer M. Glotzer. Arline embedded herself in her community. An active member of Congregation Beth Israel, she taught, worshiped and celebrated there for over fifty years. Her contributions to both the academic program and the community of King Philip Middle School were a source of great joy and pride. Arline touched the lives of countless middle school students in her more than 30 years of teaching English there, first as a substitute teacher when her children were young and then, for more than two decades, as a full-time teacher. Arline loved to be outdoors, especially by the ocean. From her youth in Bridgeport to her later years in Boston, she spent untold hours by the waterside, playing with her children or grandchildren and reading books; these were among her happiest moments. Her greatest joy was her family: holidays and celebrations, traveling to near and far destinations, preparing and sharing meals, or simply spending time together. Arline will be deeply missed and her memory will be cherished in the years to come. Arline is survived by a loving family: her daughter Helen Glotzer and husband Ken Martin of Boston; grandchildren Isaac and Leila Glotzer Martin; sister-in-law Rachel Glotzer of Norwalk; nieces Auden Grogins of Bridgeport, Liz Lebo of Stamford, Sherry Harriman of South Glastonbury and Ellen Stoltz of Tucson, AZ; nephew Ben Glotzer of Bedford, NY and their extended family members. Airline’s long and fortunate life have left her preceded in death by her loving husband Mortimer Glotzer, beloved son David Glotzer and her best friend and sister Marilyn Grogins. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Tuesday, May 16 at Congregation Beth Israel, 701 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford with interment will follow at Beth Israel Cemetery in Avon. Memorial contributions can be made to Congregation Beth Israel and the Alzheimer’s Association.
