Arthur

(L.)

Fishman

Obituary

Arthur Lewis Fishman, 88, of Hollywood, FL and East Hartford, CT, formerly of West Hartford, CT passed away surrounded by his family on April 15, 2017. Born in Hartford, CT on January 6, 1929, he was the son of the late Maybelle (Taylor) and Herman Fishman. He attended UConn and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. “Artie” was a pillar of the Jewish community in West Hartford. He was a founder of B’nai B’rith Breakfast Club and when he stopped cooking they stopped coming. He was a lifelong member of Emanuel Synagogue where he created the display frames for the beautiful stained glass windows on the bima. He was an ardent supporter of the Bess & Paul Sigel Hebrew Academy where he and his brothers created a scholarship fund. Art and his brothers also supported the Hartford Jewish Federation where they created a “Trip to Israel” scholarship. Some knew him as the “Loan Ranger” of Better Loan Society, while others knew him as one of the founders of Mr. Sparkle Car Wash. Art was always there to support and help those in need and lend a hand whenever possible. Above all else, he treasured spending time with his family, particularly his beloved grandchildren. Artie will be dearly missed by all who were lucky enough to have known him. He leaves behind his wife Helene (Jacobs), his devoted children Randy Parks and her husband Rick, David Fishman and his wife Carol, Stuart Fishman and his wife Corinne Keller, his cherished grandchildren Ross and his wife Ally, Brian, Alex, Michael, Jacob, Henry and Claire. He also leaves behind his loving brother Ed Fishman and his wife Eve, his devoted sisters-in-law Hedyth Fishman and Rose Ashbes. He was predeceased by his adored brother Bobby Fishman, brother-in-law Norman Ashbes and sister-in-law Bea Kramer. He also leaves behind his many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and colleagues. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, April 19, 2017 in the Sanctuary of the Emanuel Synagogue, 160 Mohegan Drive, West Hartford. Interment will follow at Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery, 1361 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield, CT. Following the interment, the family will receive relatives and friends at the Emanuel Synagogue. Shiva will continue at the home of Carol and David Fishman with visiting hours Wednesday 6:30 – 9:00, Thursday 6:30 – 9:00, and Friday 1 – 4. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Emanuel Synagogue or Bess & Paul Sigel Hebrew Academy. Randy and David and the Fishman family. So sorry to hear about Artie. He was a true gentleman. He helped us both get a new start by selling us one of his houses in Wethersfield when no one else would. There is a special place in our heart and memories of him.
