KASSMAN, Barney Kassman, 80 years of age, of Columbia, passed away Friday, July 31, 2009 at home surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Willimantic, he was the son of the late Max and Annie Kassman. Barney lived his entire life in Columbia and was a dairy and poultry farmer. He also worked for the University of Connecticut in the Pathobiology Department. He was a member of the United Brethren of Hebron Synagogue, Columbia Senior Organization, and The Future Farmers of America. He was the beloved husband for 56 years of Shirley Galinsky; loving father of Edward H. Kassman and his wife Leslie of Columbia, S. Steven Kassman and his wife Cheryl of Manchester, and Abby G. Kassman-Harned and her husband Court Harned of Ellington; cherished grandfather of Rachel Kassman, Joseph Kassman and his fiancé Amy, Melanie Yost and her husband Dylan, Jeremy Kassman, Benjamin Kassman, Coby Harned; great-grandfather of Noah Gould and Dylan Yost; and brother of Samuel Kassman and Morris Kassman both of Columbia. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Elizabeth Kassman.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 3, 2009 at 12:00 noon in United Brethren of Hebron Synagogue, 10 Church St. (Junction of Rt 85 & 66), Hebron with interment in United Brethren of Hebron Cemetery, Mansfield. Shiva will be observed at his home Monday following the funeral through Tuesday evening. Memorial contributions may be made to United Brethren of Hebron Synagogue, Heating Fund, P.O.
