Barry Gorfain, 80, of Venice, FL and Preston, CT, formerly of Windsor, CT, died with his family by his side on June 13, 2023 after a brief illness at Saint Francis Hospital. He was the loving husband of 55 years to Lillian Gorfain. Born on October 24, 1942 in New Britain, CT, he was the son of the late Martha and Aaron Gorfain. He attended the University of Connecticut and received his Associate’s Degree in Animal Husbandry. Barry worked in sales for several companies and retired from the Hartford Provision Company in 2008 after a dedicated 25 years of service. A lover of sports, he was a devoted coach of a variety of youth sports, including soccer, hockey and baseball. He was an avid golfer and passionate fan of UCONN basketball and the Connecticut Sun. He also loved reading, camping and traveling. Barry was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family and making them laugh. Besides his wife Lillian, he leaves his daughter Julie Marks and her husband Larry of South Windsor, CT, his son Alan Gorfain and his wife Wendy of Austin, TX, and his two wonderful grandsons Seth and Mitchell Marks, who were the love of his life. He also leaves his sister Ellen Polinsky of Nipomo, CA and two brothers-in-law Marty Zeldis of Waterford, CT and Ken Zeldis (Alice) of Pennington, NJ and his sister-in-law Sue Brim of San Diego, CA. In addition, he leaves several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his in-laws, Dr. Norman and Janet Zeldis, his brother-in-law, Earle Polinsky, his sister-in-law, Sylvia Zeldis and his brother-in-law Jim Brim. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave, Hartford, CT with Rabbi Jeffrey Bennett officiating. Shiva (a memorial period) will be held at his daughter’s home at 580 Miller Road, South Windsor, CT immediately following the memorial service and also on Wednesday, June 21 from 6-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association or Good Sports.
