Beatrice

Levy

Obituary

Beatrice (Sicklick) Cohn Levy, 95 years of age, of Bloomfield and formerly of West Hartford, died on Saturday (April 4, 2015) surrounded by her family. She was the widow of Harold Cohn and of Samuel Levy. Born in New Britain, she was the daughter of the late Mendel and Grace (Milkowitz) Sicklick. Bea was the first member of her family to attend college and is a proud alumna of Bryant College. She had a long list of interests and hobbies, and in addition to helping manage her late husband Harold’s company, S&S Products, she amassed a dedicated following as a Weight Watchers lecturer. She was a past President of Beth David sisterhood, a lifelong member of Hadassah, and a member, most recently, of Beth El Temple of West Hartford. Bea spent many summers throughout her life at Beach Park in Clinton, CT, where she loved to walk the shoreline and add to her enviable sea glass collection. She was an avid bridge player, crossword puzzle doer, and – more than anything – a storyteller and matriarch extraordinaire. Her greatest joy in life was her family. She leaves her daughter, Roberta (Cohn) Pravder and her husband Andy of Great Neck, NY; her grandchildren, Stacey (Sarfatti) Paul and her husband Rustin of New York, NY, Samantha Pravder of Great Neck, NY, and Harrison Pravder of Great Neck, NY; and her great-grandchildren, Eden and Evangeline Paul. She also leaves a large and loving extended family including her sister-in-law, Wilma Sicklick of West Hartford, her nephew, Jay Sicklick of Farmington, and her niece, Jean Hentel of Poughkeepsie, NY. Bea was predeceased by her daughter Ellie (Cohn) Sarfatti, her brother, Elliot Sicklick, and her sister, Gilda (Sicklick) Margolis. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, April 7, at Beth David Synagogue Cemetery, 1361 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield with Rabbi James Rosen officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Beth El Temple, 2626 Albany Ave., West Hartford, CT 06117. A memorial period will be observed at the Pravder residence at 50 Cedar Drive, Great Neck, NY on Tuesday from 5:30pm-9pm, Wednesday and Thursday from 2pm-5pm and 7pm-9pm, and on Friday from 1pm-5pm. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford, CT. For further information, directions, or to sign the guest book for Bea, please visit online at www.weinsteinmortuary.com/funerals.cfm.

We will always remember Bea as one of our very favorite cousins. From time to time Judy would see her at the West Hartford Senior Center, Bea playing bridge and Judy playing Scrabble. Under normal circumstances we would certainly be at the funeral, but unfortunately David is recuperating from a recent back operation and has a surgeon's appointment in New Haven tomorrow morning. But our thoughts are with you at this sad time. When we think of Bea as so very vibrant, even in her later years, it is hard to realize she was 95. We will always remember her as much younger. Our love and thoughts go out to all of you. Judy and David

I will miss Bea and her sense of humor. I met her recently but spent a lot of time with her and my mom, listening to stories from when they were young. Everytime she looked at me, she remarked that she could see my dad's face and that always made me feel happy. It was fun to spend time with someone who had known him since they were teenagers. I'm sure your memories will help you through this sad time.
