SOBOTKA – Bernice (Katz) Sobotka, 91 years of age, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2010 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Born in Lodz, Poland to Jacob and Rejla Rifka Katz, she survived internment in the Lodz Ghetto and Auschwitz during the Holocaust. After the war, she and her husband of 52 years, the late Mark Sobotka, moved to the Hartford, Connecticut area in 1949, where they raised their sons, Jacob (Cheryl) of Las Vegas and David (Karen) of New York City. She also leaves behind six beloved grandchildren, Seth (Pamela), Elizabeth, Andrew, Corey, Jesse and Ashley Sobotka, her brother Michael Katz (Sara) of Howard Beach, NY, her loving cousin Eva Libitzky (Martin) and many cousins, nephews and a niece. She was an active member and supporter of the Beth David Synagogue and Sisterhood, the Hebrew Home & Hospital Auxillary in West Hartford, and Hadassah . She will be greatly missed by her family and many, many friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi Yitzchok Adler officiating. Interment will follow in Beth David Synagogue Cemetery, Wethersfield.
