Daniel Lahn, 74, of West Hartford, died peacefully on Monday evening, July 9, at St. Francis Hospital. Born September 21, 1932, in New London, CT, Danny was a graduate of the Norwich Free Academy and the University of Connecticut, where he was a member of Phi Sigma Delta fraternity. After graduating and marrying his college sweetheart, the former Anita Grob, Dan moved to Hartford and entered the insurance business. He worked for a number of smaller agencies, and then at the New England Regional Office of the Allstate Insurance Company in West Hartford and later in Farmington, where he served as District Sales Manager, Regional Training Manager, and in other posts. Dan treasured his numerous friends and coworkers at Allstate, and served as a mentor to many younger people during his more than thirty years at the company. Dan was happily married for more than 44 years to Anita, who predeceased him in 1999, and who shared his love of Connecticut and the West Hartford community, the arts, and travel. He was for many years a member of the Emanuel Synagogue in West Hartford. Dan had a life-long interest in state and national politics and was a proud Democrat, serving at one point as chair of the West Hartford Caucus of Concerned Democrats in the early 1970?s, and continuing his involvement in local political campaigns for years afterwards. Dan is survived by his son, Seth Lahn of Indianapolis; his daughter, Deena Lahn, of San Francisco; his grandchildren Isabel Lahn-Schroeder and Harold Lahn-Schroeder of San Francisco; his beloved aunts, Katherine Grann Lubow of Miami Beach and Sylvia Lubow Rindskopf of Annapolis; and his dear friend, Leta Marks of West Hartford. Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, July 11, at 2:00 p.m., in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford, with interment at the Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery, Wethersfield.
