David Baumstein, 96, of Windsor, died Wednesday October 31, 2012. He was born in Hartford, the son of the late Dora (Itzkovitz) and Solomon Baumstein. He graduated the University of Connecticut and earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work at the University of Pennsylvania. This was followed by study as a Fulbright Fellow at the University of London, England.
David was the first paid Executive Director of HARC in Hartford, Director of Social Services at the State of Connecticut DMR, Asst. Commissioner of the New York State Department of Mental Hygiene and Director of the Hamburg Developmental Center in Hamburg, PA. Upon retirement David moved to Florida where he spent many pleasant years.
David is survived by his cousins, Susan and Allan Viner of Windsor, who managed his care in his later years. He leaves a special friend Phyllis Levine of Boca Raton, FL. He was predeceased by his wife Janet and his two brothers, Samuel and Harold.
The family extends its thanks to the staff of D wing of Kimberly Hall South for the care given to David. A graveside service, conducted by Rabbi Debra Cantor, will be held TODAY, Friday November 2, 2012 at 1:00 pm at the Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery, 1361 Berlin Tpke., Wethersfield.
