David

Finkelstein

Obituary

David Finkelstein, 69, of Hockanum Blvd., Vernon, died peacefully at home with his family by his side on Saturday, January 7, 2012. Born October 13, 1942 in Brookline, MA, he was the son of the late Louis and Sylvia (Nerlinger) Finkelstein. David spent his early years in Portland, ME, graduating from Portland High School and then moved to Connecticut in 1970 to work in engineering in several area companies. He lived in Glastonbury, Manchester and more recently in Vernon. Before retiring in 2008, he owned and operated Classic Fine Jewelry in Manchester with his wife and daughter, Debra. His greatest pleasure, besides being with his family, was playing golf at Ellington Ridge Country Club. He also loved to fly and had his private pilot’s license. He will be missed by his loving wife of 48 years, Paula (Kaufman) Finkelstein; daughters Debra Bouldin and her husband Kevin of Manchester, and Dr. Cheryl Shevy and her husband Dr. Mark Shevy of Marquette, MI; and his three grandsons: Joshua, Noah and Elijah Shevy of Marquette, MI. On his behalf, the family expresses its appreciation to the North Central Hospice for the wonderful care by their nurses, including Sharon Leist and Janet Greer; their aides, including Amy Rose; and their volunteer, Ruth Mensing, as well as many others. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi Howard Herman officiating. A private period of mourning will be observed by the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the North Central Hospice, 8 Keynote Dr., Vernon 06066, or to the Michael J. This is a voice from the past. David and I were good friends in the Portland area in the late 50's and very early sixties. I can remember so well how proud he was of his 1960 white Ford Galaxy hardtop that his parents bought for him, I think for graduation. We would meet at his parents apartment on Montgomery Street on Munjoy Hill and go to Stephans Avenue Armory to the record hops together and then to the Forest City Diner where we might find someone to drag race with. I hope I'm not telling stories out of class. I have a lot of funny stories about our times together. We fell out of touch when he moved south and I had heard that he had a jewelry store in CT but never knew where. This is where one wishes he had stayed in touch with old pals, but as young people your life unfolds and you lose touch with good friends. My condolences go out to his family whom I've never met but still know the sad feelings they must have and the good memeroies they shared over the years with Dave.
