David N. Goldman, 83, of West Hartford, passed away on Sunday, March 7, 2010 after a lengthy illness. He was born in Waterbury in 1927 to the late Nora and Joseph Goldman. David graduated from Crosby High School in 1944 and from New York University in 1951 with a B.S. degree in Economics. At NYU, he was Vice President of Student Council and President of the Alexander Hamilton Economics Society. During World War II, David was commissioned by the U.S. Coast Guard and served in the Merchant Marines, sailing to Germany, Poland and parts of England. He operated the family-owned Goldman?s Uptown retail clothing business in Waterbury where he had worked since childhood. Also in Waterbury, he was Treasurer of Beth El Synagogue and a member of the Ridgewood and Crestbrook Country Clubs. In 1960, he became a registered representative with R.F. Griggs Brokerage. He closed the retail clothing business in 1963 and began a full-time career in financial services that would span over 45 years. As an agent with Franklin Life Insurance Co., he was a member of the Million Dollar Round Table. In 1967, David joined Brainard Judd Brokerage in Hartford, and moved his family to West Hartford. Through a series of mergers, David was a valued financial advisor, colleague and Vice President with Blyth Eastman Dillon, Tucker Anthony and RBC Dain Rauscher. He retired from RBC Wealth Management in 2009. David married Felice Gillman of New Haven in 1953 and together they recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. In addition to his loving and devoted wife, he leaves his daughter, Ina and son-in-law Philip Guzman of Cary, NC; his daughter, Cathy and son-in-law Steven Bokoff of Norwich; and his son, James and daughter-in-law Amy Goldman of West Hartford. Pop was adored by his grandchildren: Matthew Guzman, Jennifer and Michael Bokoff, and Noah and Leah Goldman. David was predeceased by his sisters Mona Levine, Bettye Pasternak and Ruth Anderson Altschul. Funeral services will be held TODAY, Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, with Rabbi James Rosen officiating. Interment will follow in the Beth Israel Cemetery, Avon. Shiva will be observed Tuesday through Thursday at the home of James and Amy Goldman, 65 Pilgrim Road, West Hartford. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association or Beth El Temple, West Hartford.
