David P. Rappaport, 48, of West Hartford, beloved husband of Gail (Cohn) Rappaport for 19-1/2 years, died Friday, October 20, 2006 after a battle with cancer which he fought with strength and courage. He was an inspiration to everyone. Born in Hartford, David was the son of Lois (Lundy) Radding and the late Isadore Radding of Manchester, and Kenneth Rappaport of Fair Haven, VT. David received his undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Connecticut. He later pursued his MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. David was employed at Otis Elevator Company for 19 years. Every time he stepped into an elevator, he checked to see if it was an Otis Elevator. He was a member of the Emanuel Synagogue and president of its Brotherhood. He made many friends and felt very much a part of the Emanuel Community. David had a great sense of humor and always made everyone laugh. He enjoyed following the stock market. Among his greatest joys and blessings in life were his daughters: Michelle and Elaina. He adored his girls and they absolutely adored their daddy. He could not have been prouder of his little girls. He is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Susan Rappaport of Wilton; a sister and her partner, Ellen Rappaport and Dori Gottfried of Maryland; a step-sister: Paula Radding of New Jersey; a step-brother and his wife: Joel and Eliane Radding of New York; his father-in-law: Marshall Cohn of New Britain; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Sam and Susan Cohn of West Hartford; and eight nieces and nephews: Alexander, Zachary and Alyssa Rappaport, Margot Radding, Yosef and Joshua Radding, and Joshua and Sarah Cohn. David received wonderful medical care. His family would especially like to thank Dr. Robert Siegel and Donna Rioux of the Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center at Hartford Hospital; the Bliss 5 unit for their outstanding compassion; and Dr. Suzanne George of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 23, 2006 at 2:00 PM in the Sanctuary of the Emanuel Synagogue, 160 Mohegan Dr., West Hartford with Rabbi David J. Small officiating. Interment will follow in the Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery, Wethersfield. A Memorial Period will be observed at his home, 7 Young La., West Hartford Monday, following the funeral through Tuesday evening, and then on Wednesday, at the home of his brother, Jerry Rappaport, 5 Bayberry La., Wilton. Contributions in David’s memory may be made to the National Leiomyosarcoma Foundation, 129 Hawkins Rd., Maryland, NY 12116, or to the Emanuel Synagogue.
