Doris (Chernin) Eisenberg, 94 years of age, of West Hartford, CT, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, November 10, 2016. She was the beloved wife of the late Abraham Eisenberg. Born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Lepman and Minnie Chernin.
She moved to New York City at age 20 to work and study. From childhood, Doris was an avid ice skater and it was on the ice that she met her future husband. They settled in Valley Stream, New York where together they founded and ran a food distribution business for over 30 years. After retiring, Doris and Abe spent their time moving between West Hartford, West Palm Beach and Kibbutz Gezer in Israel.
Doris leaves a son, Michael Eisenberg and his partner, Frank Abdale of New York City and Honesdale, PA; two daughters, Judy Eisenberg and her husband Bill Rubenstein of West Hartford and Laura Livney and her husband Dani of Kibbutz Gezer; and four beloved grandchildren, Lee and Hannah Rubenstein and Ayla and Lia Livney. In addition, Doris had strong and loving relationships with her nieces, nephews, and “country” family. In the last few years, Doris received loving care from Pauline Robinson and Varita Williams, her health aides from JFS Care at Home.
In keeping with Doris’s wishes, there will be a private service with interment. The family will receive visitors on Sunday from 1 to 6 pm at the home of her daughter Judy Eisenberg, 251 Penn Drive, West Hartford, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or a charity of your choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford, CT.
