Dorothy Ellen Lappen Daley passed away peacefully on January 11, 2024 at age 93 in Vernon CT. She was born on August 13, 1930 in Hartford CT. Dorothy graduated from Weaver High School in Hartford CT and went on to graduate from Boston University in 1953 with a double major in Chemistry and Biology. Ms. Daley went back to Weaver High School to teach Biology for a short time then worked for Hartford Hospital School of Nursing where she taught Anatomy and Physiology to nursing students for ten years. When the nursing school closed in the 70’s, Dorothy worked with various employers including: Hartford Hospital, Tunxis Community College, Norwalk Community College, Dept. of Transportation, State Treasury, Summers Prison, and Friendly’s. Dorothy had the misfortune of being predeceased by two of her children; Linda Daley in the 1950’s and Lee Daley in 1997. She is survived by her daughter: Shari Rand, her husband William Rand, III, and Dee Daley. Dorothy also leaves behind three granddaughters: Ivy Rose Daley of Florida, Jessica Rand of MA, and Rachel Rand of MA. Dorothy had a fine appreciation for the fine arts including: opera, music, and ballet. She also loved and followed faithfully the UCONN Huskies (but only when they were winning). Back in her prime, Dorothy cherished many trips to her beloved NYC for a day at the theatre and dinner with her daughter. Dorothy also enjoyed many vacation trips to Cape Cod and Ocean Beach in CT with her two children. Dorothy also appreciated fine dining, playing cards, Jeopardy, and bingo. She was always a teacher at heart and would help others whenever she could with her abundance of knowledge. Dorothy had a special place in her heart for animals and always had a cat in her home as well as donating to local animal charities. Services will be held Monday 1/15 at 11:00am in the John Hay Memorial Park: 999 Garden St. Hartford, CT. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary.
