Dorothy Gitlavitz of Hamden, 98 years of age, formerly of New Britain, died peacefully Sunday, July 20, 2014. Dorothy was a teacher and a guidance counselor in the New Britain Public School System until her retirement. She leaves her niece, Susan Epstein and her husband Richard Shapiro of Hamden; her nephew Mark Epstein of Gulfport, FL; her nephew Charles Rogol and his wife Heidi of East Brunswick, NJ; her nephew Brian Rogol and his wife Rhonna, of Manhattan; and her niece Debra Krasa and her husband Raphael of Natick, MA. She also leaves her caring companion and caregiver, Joyce Brown, and eight grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her sisters Molly G. Epstein and Alice M. Rogol.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Beth Alom Cemetery, Allen St., New Britain. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Simon Wiesenthal Center. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford.
