Edith Juster, née Byer, died in Hoosick Falls, NY on November 29, 2016 at the age of 91. Edith was born on January 29, 1925, a native of her beloved Brooklyn growing up in Bedford-Stuyvesant with her parents, 4 sisters and brother. As a teenager, she was active in the Young Zionist movement prior to World War II. During the war, she met and married her husband Milton, and spent parts of 1943 and 1944 following him around the southwestern United States where he was training as an airplane mechanic in the Army Air Corps. After the war, they settled in Spring Valley, NY briefly and eventually in Monsey, NY in Rockland County. Edith made a life in Monsey, raising her family and living in the same house for 57 years. She worked as a receptionist for an insurance agency, then kept the books for her husband’s plumbing business, and finally was a bookkeeper for her nephew where she commuted to Long Island twice a week until 6 years ago. Though a Brooklyn Dodgers fan from birth, she converted to following the New York Yankees when the Dodgers deserted her in 1957. She enjoyed spending time with her immediate and extended family and friends, playing mah-jong with the girls, and helping out others through the day-to-day issues everyone faces. Family gatherings at her house and in the community room of her apartment were what she enjoyed most, especially making her swedish meatballs, and working to make sure everyone had a good time. If the dish towel was missing, just look for it on her shoulder. Edith Juster is survived by her three children, Mark Juster (Valerie) from Brevard, NC, Hollace Juster, Weatogue CT, and Harlan Juster (Theresa), Hoosick Falls, NY; three grandchildren, John Needham (Alison), MA, David Juster(Savannah) and Meryl Juster, Oneonta, NY; and 2 great grandchildren, Emmet and Jacob Needham. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, December 2, 2016 in the Beth Hillel Cemetery, 100 Wolcott Road, East Granby, CT with Rabbi Philip Lazowski officiating. Family and friends will gather at the home of her daughter, Hollace, 126 Hopmeadow Street, 9E in Weatogue CT.
