Elaine L. Ofshay, age 88, passed away peacefully at John Dempsey Hospital, Farmington, CT after a courageous battle with dementia on October 18, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was born on April 28, 1935 in Hartford CT and was the younger of two daughters born to the late Samuel and Libby Rohrlick. Elaine graduated from Buckley High School in Hartford and worked as a keypunch operator at the Traveler’s Insurance Company before she married and had a family. She was the wife of the late Harvey Ofshay for nearly 60 years, a mother of two and grandmother to four grandchildren. She was a loving mother and doting grandmother affectionately known as “Mimi.” Elaine was a quiet and reserved person who had a tremendous inner strength when faced with life’s adversities. Elaine enjoyed her immediate and extended family above anything else. She had a special relationship with each of her grandchildren and had a strong presence in their lives. She was known as a wonderful cook, baker and gracious host to family gatherings. Elaine loved antiquing, knitting, chocolate, shopping, soap operas and trips to Florida and Bermuda. Elaine enjoyed her pets Chipper and Nikki over the years and grand-pets in recent times. Elaine is survived by her two children: Debra Ofshav of West Hartford, CT and Susan Parrotta and son-in-law Peter Parrotta of Rocky Hill, CT, four grandchildren; David and Lauren Ofshay and Clayton and Morgan Parrotta and a niece and nephew. She was predeceased by her sister Marilyn Lappen. The family would like to thank Elaine’s wonderful caretakers Dorcas Mari and Harriett Owusu-Mantey for providing excellent care to her in her final years.
