Obituary

Elaine M. Sodel, 72, known affectionately to her family and friends as Laine, of West Hartford, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2018. Elaine was born on May 10, 1946 in Hartford, the daughter of the former Charlotte (Lutsky) and Stanley Sack of Bloomfield, Connecticut. She graduated from Bloomfield High School and then from the Chandler School of Women in Boston. She married Edward Sodel, and settled in Bloomfield and West Hartford, raising her children, Jennifer and Matthew. She owned Pappagallo Shoes in Hartford, and later ElaineJacques in Simsbury and Glastonbury. In retirement, Elaine was an avid golfer and bridge player as well as enjoying her grandchildren. Elaine was a vivacious person, and a caring and close friend to many throughout Connecticut and Florida. Elaine is survived by Eddie, her husband of fifty-one years, her brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Jan Sack, her daughter, Jennifer Rosenthal and her husband Edward, her son Matthew and fiancé Ashley Springer of Delray Beach, Florida, and her beloved grandchildren, Jessica Rosenthal, Cameron Rosenthal, Spencer Sodel, and Sammy Sodel. Funeral services will be held on Thursday June 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford. A memorial period will be observed at her daughter’s home at 2 Erica Lane, Simsbury following burial. The family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale Senior Living in West Hartford for their compassionate care during her illness. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.
