Fishman

Obituary

Eva (Eve) Stahl Fishman, 87 years of age, of West Hartford, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2021. Born in Munich, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Edith and Walter Stahl. Eve grew up in the Kew Gardens section of Queens, NY, and moved to West Hartford in 1955, where she remained a resident until her passing. She enrolled as a Freshman at UCONN where she met her husband and love of her life, Ed Fishman. She then transferred to NYU where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Education. Eve began her career as a substitute teacher for various public schools in the greater Hartford area. She went on to manage the West Hartford office of Stanley Kaplan for more 10 years. But her main focus was raising her three boys. Eve was an animal lover, a talented artist and enjoyed dining out, playing mahjongg and Words-With-Friends. But most of all, she loved spending time with her husband, her 3 children and their spouse and her beloved 8 grandchildren. She was briefly predeceased by her husband, Edward, who died February 4, 2021. They were happily married for more than 65 years. She leaves her sons, Michael Fishman and his wife Evelyn of West Hartford, CT; Kenneth Fishman and his wife Lisa of Southborough, MA; and Ronald Fishman and his wife Kathy of West Hartford; eight grandchildren: Carolyn, Eric, Andrea, Jeremy, Rachel, Alex, Ben and Dana; and sisters-in-law, Helene Fishman and Hedyth Fishman. Private funeral services will be held Friday, February 12, 2021 at the Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery, with Rabbi David Small officiating. A shiva service with the family will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, via the Emanuel Synagogue zoom. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society at www.cthumane.org and to the Eve & Edward Fishman Jewish Education Fund at The Emanuel Synagogue, 160 Mohegan Drive, West Hartford, CT 06117. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford, CT. We are so saddened for the Fishman family by the loss of Eve and Ed. We were good friends for many years, starting at UConn when we lived in West Hartford and in Florida for their yearly winter visits. We have many wonderful memories of the good times we had together. We will miss them and we send our condolences. Marilyn and Bill Cohen.

Mike, Ken, Ron and families- I am so sorry for the loss of both of your parents this past week, for a family to suffer that is overwhelming. Both your mom and your dad were such an important figures in my life growing up, and your home was a second home. They were remarkable, loving parents, full of humor, always welcoming, and my heart goes out to your families. HB

We are so deeply saddened for the entire Fishman family by the loss of both Eve and Ed, especially in such a short span of time. They were generous, charming and gracious - traits they passed on to their son, Ken, whom we are privileged to know through his wife, Lisa, both of whom are dear friends. Sending our heartfelt condolences to all of Eve’s and Ed’s sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren at this trying time. Sincerely, Felicia & Gary

Eve and I were best friends from my first day at UConn ( in the German House ) I also lived in Queens and we visited each other after Eve left UConn. My late husband Donald and Ed became very close friends also. I had the honor of being their Maid of Honor at their wedding. My sadness is overwhelming !
I send love to their wonderful family and will remember them always !!!!!

My sincere condolences to the entire Fishman family. Our families were close and there were camping and skiing trips over school vacations and Eve and my mom would plan great adventures for Ed and my dad on their shared wedding anniversary date. Eve and I still kept in touch after all these years. They’re wonderful and I’ll miss them very much.
