Florence Druckman, 99 years young, of West Hartford, died peacefully at home on January 8, 2016. She was the beloved wife of the late Harry Druckman. Born in Hartford, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Rose (Gordon) Weinstein. She is survived by her son and two daughters, Richard A. Druckman and his wife Joan, of Princeton Junction, NJ; Judith Gruskay of West Hartford; and Rosanne Druckman and her husband, Dr. Larry Scherzer, of Simsbury; six Grandchildren and their spouses, Michael Druckman and his wife Andrea of Bethesda, Md; Gregory Druckman and his wife Robin of Stamford; Steven Druckman and his wife Vanessa of River Forest, Il; Dr. Jennifer Soep and her husband Richard “Chip” Galaty of Denver, Co; Dr. Elizabeth Soep and her husband Charles “Chas” Edwards of San Francisco, Ca; and Matthew Scherzer and his wife Erin Russ Scherzer of Maplewood, NJ; and thirteen Great Grandchildren; and her sister Shirley Sosin and her husband Bill of Bensalem, Pa. She was predeceased by her sister, Sylvia Levine. Florence was a lifelong Hartford native, having graduated from Weaver High School. Her family and community were the center of her life. All of her children’s friends knew the house on Litchfield Street was a place to get a hug, encouragement and a chocolate chip cookie! After her children graduated high school, Florence worked for Aetna until her retirement. Florence was a tireless volunteer for many worthy causes, from Girl Scouts to helping immigrants assimilate to Hartford after WW II. She was a volunteer for local soup kitchens and Hartford area public schools into her 9th decade. Her life was a model to all who knew her, hers was a life well lived. The family wishes to gratefully acknowledge her many personal aides who generously provided care and comfort during her final days. Special thanks to Jennifer, Kim, Marcia, Rosalind and Nadine.
Funeral services will be held at 2:15 PM on Sunday, January 10, 2016 at the chapel of Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford with Rabbi Michael Pincus officiating. Internment will follow at the Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery, 1361 Berlin Turnpike,Wethersfield. Following the interment, the family will receive relatives and friends at the home of her daughter, Judith Gruskay, 5 Ridgemont Drive, West Hartford. Judith will also host a memorial gathering and brief service at 7:15 PM Sunday and Monday evenings. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association , The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving College Scholarship Fund, or a charity of the donor’s choice .
