Florence Grace Fichman, 94 years of age, of West Hartford, CT, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, November 7, 2016. Born in Hartford, Florence was the daughter of the late Morris and Effie (Esserman) Fichman, sister of the late Merrill and Jack Fichman and beloved friend of the late Mae Miller.
Florence was raised in Hartford, CT and went on to Temple University to become a dental hygienist. She practiced locally and in Nevada for several years and then returned to college to pursue a career in education. She taught in the West Hartford school system until her retirement. She and her friend, Mae Miller, traveled extensively.
Florence is survived by her niece, Patti-Ann Fichman, of California. She was fortunate in having a “friendly visitor”, Sara deBeer, through Jewish Family Services. During the last years of her life, Florence was cared for by her aides, Felicity, Nina and Daliah, whom she loved as her own.
Florence was a lifelong member of the Emanuel Synagogue and Hadassah. She was also on the boards of Mended Hearts and CCCI to which contributions can be made in her name.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am on Sunday, November 13, 2016 in the Emanuel Synagogue Cemetery, 1361 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield, CT with Rabbi Philip Lazowski officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mended Hearts, 815 N. Central Expressway, M2248, Dallas, TX 75206 or to Connecticut Community Care, Inc.
