Florence Goldstein Fuchs of Simsbury Road, West Hartford, died Thursday August 31 at the Hebrew Home and Hospital after a short illness. Florence was born May 15, 1918, in the Bronx, New York, the third of four children of Sadie and Benjamin Goldstein. She graduated from Walton High School as a member of the ARISTA honor society. She was the widow of Leo Fuchs, who died in 1971. She leaves her grieving children Rochelle Fuchs Boshak and her husband Jack of Old Bridge NJ, and her son Rabbi Stephen Fuchs and his wife Victoria of West Hartford. She was the beloved grandmother of Toby Boshak and her husband Paul Eisenberg, Heather Boshak and her husband Paul Kotlewski, Leah Boshak Babitz and her husband Scott, Danna Boshak, Leo Fuchs and his wife Dr. Liz Goldman, Sarah Fuchs Moskowitz and her husband Dan, and Benjamin Fuchs. She was also the adoring and adored great-grandmother of Libby, Sadye, Jocelyn, Maya, Liam, and Eli. Another great grandson, Simon, died in infancy. For the past several years Florence has spent winters in Florida living with her beloved sister, Evelyn Bernstein and her husband Leonard. This past spring she took up residence at Hoffman Summerwood, an assisted living facility and was most appreciative of the warm, caring staff there. She became an active member of Congregation Beth Israel where she enjoyed attending services and S.A.G.E. programs regularly. Florence’s children consider her a true hero because of the loving and skillful way she cared for her husband during his long illness and the way she continued to live with purpose, meaning and optimism even as her physical capacities diminished. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 4th at 11:00 AM at Congregation Beth Israel, 701 Farmington Ave., West Hartford. On Tuesday, September 5th at 11:00 a.m. she will be buried next to her beloved husband at Cedar Park Cemetery in Oradell, New Jersey. The family will sit shiva at the home of Rabbi and Mrs. Stephen Fuchs on Monday night with a minyan at 7:00 p.m. Then the family will sit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Boshak, 30 Tuscarora Circle, Old Bridge, NJ, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights. The family will hold a final minyan at the Fuchs’ home on Sunday, September 10th at 7:00 p.m. Arrangements have gratefully been entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary.
