Frances

Erlichson

Obituary

Frances Erlichson, 60 years of age, of West Simsbury, died on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, at her home after a long illness. Fran was born on October 21, 1952 in Bronx, New York to Bessie and Jack Erlichson. She attended Music and Art High School in New York, received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1973 from what is now Binghamton University and her Master of Fine Arts degree in 1977 from the University of Massachusetts. After completion of her graduate studies, Fran taught art and design at Smith College and Mount Holyoke College. During these years of teaching, she also worked closely with mentally handicapped children in Northampton, Massachusetts. In 1984, Fran decided to change course and pursue a legal career. In 1987, Fran graduated from Western New England College School of Law, and began work at Robinson & Cole in Hartford. From 1990 until 1995, Fran put her career on hold in order to devote herself full-time to her greatest love, raising her two children, Sam and Rachel. Once both children were in school, Fran returned part-time to the practice of law, working at area firms and the Connecticut Legislature. In 2003, she resumed her full-time legal practice, in-house at Executive Risk, and then at The Hartford. Fran is survived by her two beloved children, Samuel and Rachel; her husband, Timothy McCarthy; her father Jack Erlichson; sister Miriam Erlichson; brother-in-law Thomas McCarthy and his wife Eleanor; her nephews, Liam and Flynn; aunt and uncle, Sarah and Sidney Glass; aunt Rose Cooper; and numerous cousins and friends. A graveside funeral will be held at 12:00 noon, on Friday, November 9th at the Beth El Temple Cemetery, 51 Jackson Street, Avon with Rabbi James Rosen officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be sent to the American Cancer Society, 825 Brook St, I-91 Tech Center, Rocky Hill 06067-3045. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford. For further information, directions, or to sign the guest book for Fran, please visit online at www.weinsteinmortuary.com/funerals.cfm.

Dear Tim, Sam and Rachel,
My heart goes out to you. Fran was a former colleague of mine at The Hartford. I remember her as a hard working, generous and very kind person. We loved to talk about traveling and our respective families. Peace be with you, Louise

It is with great sadness and fond memories that I make this entry. I worked with Fran at The Hartford where we were cube mates for a period of time. We shared many stories about art, books, soccer games, proper texting etiquette, Friendship Cottage Cheese, gourmet dinners, the practice of law, Europe, internships, yoga, and so on. The love and adoration she had for her family was undeniable and brought her great pleasure. Hold dearly to the legacy of love she has given you for it will manifest itself in places and ways you least expect.

I had the absolute pleasure of meeting and working with Fran at The Hartford. She was so positive and uplifting and always had a smile on her face. Fran was always willing to stop what she was doing to help anyone who asked. She left a huge hole at work and is sorely missed. Fran was a wonderful person and will be in our hearts always.

We all have wonderful memories of Fran, may she rest in peace.

Fran and I first met when Sam and my daughter went to two-year-old nursery school at the JCC. She also had a newborn and so did I. So we bonded in aerobics class at the JCC comparing notes about having kids less than 2 years apart. Fran was the star of the aerobics classes--full of energy, always positive and smiling--and everyone wanted to be around her.

Our hearts go out to Tim, Sam and Rachel, the loves of her life, for this terrible loss.

We were all lucky to have had Fran in our lives.

Love,
Lisa, Mike, Rebecca and Zach Lenkiewicz

We are so sad about Frances' sudden passing. She was always so full of life, so friendly and enthusiastic with all of the other soccer families at Vassar, and so committed to her family. She was so proud of both of her children and their accomplishments. I remember her sharing how she met Tim her first night of college.
Frances clearly had a life full of love.
Our caring thoughts are with Sam, Rachel and Tim. We wish you strength in bearing such a great loss.

I had the opportunity to work with Fran at The Hartford in GB Compliance. Fran was kind and uplifting. She had such a positive attitude about everything, and always had something nice to say. Fran was charged with training her team on a work process. She went above and beyond creating detailed training handouts ensuring everyone would be successful in performing the task. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.
