LIPMAN, Frances Toby Lipman, 93 years of age, of West Hartford, died Friday, October 2, 2009 at her home in Elkton, OR. She was born November 28, 1915 in New York City, daughter of the late Simon and Dora (Friedman) Velitzkin. A graduate of New Britain High School, she received a Bachelor?s degree from Columbia Teacher?s College in New York in 1937. She then returned to Connecticut to teach art at Nathan Hale Junior High School. In 1940 she met and married Jack Lipman of Hartford, her husband of 57 years until his death in 1997. They had two daughters, Carole Sue and Deborah Sherry, and worked side-by-side with her husband at the Jack Lipman Company, contractors for commercial and industrial heating and air-conditioning. In 2000, Frances relocated to Oregon, where she lived with Deborah and her partner Howard Kiefer in Elkton. Among her many interests were yoga, playing the piano, quilting and dollhouse miniatures. She created more than two dozen dollhouses and theme boxes, most of which were given as gifts or donated as fundraisers to charitable organizations, including the Greater Hartford Jewish Community Center. Frances was a loving and devoted friend who inspired both young and old with her enthusiasm and open-hearted encouragement. She is survived by daughters, Carole Sue Lipman of Los Angeles, CA, and Deborah Sherry Lipman of Elkton, OR; and by granddaughter, Rima Lyn of Los Angeles, CA. She was predeceased by her sister Ruth Wilson of New Jersey and by her brother Maurice Marshall of Florida.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Beth El Temple Cemetery, Jackson St. Ext., Avon.
