Fred

Sherbacow

Obituary

Fred Allen Sherbacow, 87, of West Hartford, Connecticut and Delray Beach Florida, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2022 surrounded by his family. Fred was born November 18, 1934 to Abe and Beatrice Sherbacow, and raised in Stamford along with his two brothers Paul and Donald.   Fred was predeceased by his wife of 57 years Carol Ann Comen Sherbacow who had a long battle with Alzheimer’s.  He is survived by her three children, Jill and Sam Alecci of Hawley, PA, Ken and Mame Sherbacow and Eric and Michele Sherbacow of Avon. Fred was blessed with six grandchildren; Brianne, Alex, Ben, Natalie, Annie, Jack and great grandson Caden   Fred was a proud graduate of UCONN class of 1956 as an Accounting Major and a member of the Phi Sigma Delta fraternity.  He married the love of his life Carol in 1956 and started their amazing life together.  Fred had an infectious smile that rivaled Carol and they both could lite up any room.  After graduation he worked at Deloitte Haskins and Sells.  He later relocated to West Hartford where he began a career in the food service industry and became a maverick in the field as Vice President at Interstate United and then Chief Executive at Bell Food Services (“the ring of quality”) which he sold in 1988.  Fred was fortunate to retire at the age of 54 “snow birding” to Glen Eagles Country Club in Delray Beach Florida with mom. They continued their amazing trips around the world with their dear friends Ronnie and Natalie Schacht, Digger and Sandy Wallach, Eve and Ed Fishman. He continued to work on his golf game with his Glen Eagles crazy gang of 8 – Kippy, Hermie, Roy, Bobby, Alvin, Lenny, Sherman and of course Fred.  He enjoyed hunting for balls as much as he did trying to score. Fred “did it his way” pushing the limit on any rule from an untucked shirt on the course, walking his 2 Bichons Nicki and Samantha through the fairways, or fishing for golf balls (white fish) at night in the supposedly gator free ponds. After the passing of mom, Fred continued to live in Glen Eagles full time with his companion Susan Engle.  Fred was a huge UCONN Basketball and Red Sox fan which he never thought would win multiple championships in their respective sports.   While so very sad to leave us, Mom has been waiting and holding a table. We are all so happy that you are together once again.   A graveside funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at 11:00 in the Beth Israel Cemetery, Jackson St. Extension, Avon with Rabbi Michael Pincus officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at alzfdn.org in honor of his love Carol. So sorry for your loss Jill. I remember your Dad being lots of fun and always nice to us kids when we were young. May his memory be a blessing.

Growing up across the street (without brothers) from the Sherbacow’s was a blessing. Being younger, I looked up to both Ken and Eric. Hanging out, meant shagging tennis balls from the never-ending home run derbies that played out.

In my eyes Fred and Carol were always the “cool” parents. Their sense of humor and infectious laughs still echo in my ears. Thinking about Jill’s feathered hair and Thunder’s strut around the neighborhood brings a smile to my face. I am sorry for your tremendous losses. If I know one thing about your folks, it's that they are ripping it up at the pearly gates welcome party. Sending all of you big hugs.
