George Growick, 98 of West Hartford beloved husband of the late Helen Growick, passed away on Sunday, (January 20, 2013). He was born on May 9, 1914, in the Bronx. He was a proud resident of The Bronx for his first 62 years where he and Helen raised their children. George spent the remainder of his life in West Hartford, where he was known as the mayor of Bishop’s Corner. He is survived by his loving children, Philip and his wife Stephanie of West Hartford, and Bruce and his wife Sharon, of Columbus, OH. Along with sons, he leaves behind six adoring grandchildren AJ, Todd, Dustin, Max, and Sasha and her husband Joshua. George was a loving father, grandfather and friend who never asked for anything and received so much from everyone who knew him. His Starkel Road Gang was always there for him. George loved his New York Yankees and his precious dogs Mollie and Sadie who he walked with love and pride. He biked, walked, and swam well into his nineties and had a voracious appetite.
George’s family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care he received while at St. Mary’s Home, particularly Andrea Edmead. Funeral services will be graveside at Beth El Cemetery in Paramus, NJ. Shiva will be held at Philip and Stephanie’s home on Tuesday evening and Wednesday afternoon and evening.
