Geraldine Schwartz Newfield died at the Hebrew Home and Hospital on Wednesday, May 25, 2005 following a long illness. She was 84 years old. Mrs. Newfield was married to the late Richard A. Newfield and had resided in West Hartford for 59 years. Geraldine was born in New London. She graduated from Beaver College in Jenkintown, PA, and The Amy Sacker School of Interior Design in Boston. She worked as a designer for Lord and Taylor in New York City before joining the Red Cross for overseas duty during World War II. In England she was in charge of Red Cross facilities which provided rest and recreation for our pilots who flew missions in the European theater. Mrs. Newfield was an avid golfer and belonged to Tumblebrook Country Club. She particularly enjoyed being surrounded by all things beautiful as was reflected in her volunteer work to support the Wadsworth Atheneum as well as her continuing interest in interior design, gardening and fashion. Mrs. Newfield leaves her two children: Regina Freeman of Boston, MA, and Anthony Newfield and his wife, Judith of West Hartford; five grandchildren: Liza Newfield of New York, NY, Kathryn and Angelina Newfield of West Hartford, Derek Newfield of Las Vegas, NV, and Jessica Freeman of Boston, MA; and a sister, Sue Cahners and her husband Walter of Boston, MA. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 27 at 11:00 AM at Beth Israel Cemetery, Ward and Affleck Streets, Hartford.
