Cousin "Goldie" was my Dad's (Paul "Porky" Borstein's) first cousin. My memories of her was she always had a beautiful smile, a beautiful tan, and knitting something beautiful. She started a Cousin's Club that got the family and extended family together over the years. Goldie made her transition on my Dad's birthday. May her memory be a blessing for all!

My memories of Gertie are of a loving, caring person who loved her family and friends dearly. When I was a teenager, she and Solly were raising her family in my neighborhood. She was like a sister to my two cousins and I always considered her family. After I bought my house in Florida, we saw each other whenever we could. I will never forget the long talks we had after the passing of my cousins and her dear friends. She will always be in my heart as one of the greatest ladies knew. My deepest sympathy to Solly, Howie and family, Jeff and family and Bevie and family. We are all better for having known her.

My parents, Paul and Estelle Meyer, live in Whisper Walk and I met your mom in the pool - of course! Gert treated my 3 year old like her own grandson and always made a fuss over him when we visited. She gave my parents restaurant suggestions when they came to visit me - I discovered First and Last Tavern thanks to your mom.
She was a kind, warm-hearted lady and will be greatly missed.

Solly and I worked together at Union Drug Company. He was one of the funniest guys I've ever met. His smile was contagious to all. My sincerest condolences go out to Solly and his family.

Respectfully,

The world has lost a very loving and kind woman. Goldie's sweet smile and caring, compassionate expression are things I will always remember and treasure. She leaves behind an equally special husband and two amazing sons each with awesome families that have the love they do because Goldie and Solly cherished each one so much. What a beautiful legacy she leaves for her family knowing she was in your lives.

Our hearts go out to you at this sad time. Howie, i'll always remember how warm and welcoming your Mom was whenever I was a guest at your home going back to our UConn days. Try to take comfort in the fact that she didn't have to go through a long period of suffering. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you.

I play pan on Tuesday as did Gert & every time she saw me she asked why I don't come to the pool anymore. I really have no reason, but Gert was convinced that I must go to the pool at Greenleaf because most of my friends live there, but I assured her that I really don't & promised I'd come to the pool one of these days. Unfortunately I haven't gone yet. Gert always asked about my grandchildren & my daughter. She enjoyed seeing them at the pool when they came to visit. My daughter lives in Hartford so they always had something to talk about. I'll miss her.
