Dr. Harold Richman, 80, died Tuesday, September 12th, at his home in West Hartford. Harold was married to the late Barbara Miller Richman for 49 years. He practiced orthodontics in Middletown after graduating from Trinity College in Hartford and Tufts Dental School. Harold was born and raised in New Britain, the son of Rose and Mendel. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, in the Pacific. Harold was the founder of Mount Southington Ski Area and maintained a leading role in its management. Harold and Barbara were active members of Temple Beth Israel for nearly 50 years and gave generously of their time and resources to the synagogue, Jewish Federation, AIPAC, and Ben Gurion University in Israel. He lived an active and engaged life, and especially enjoyed gardening, playing the harmonica, and creating sculpture. Harold is survived by his children Lauren Richman and Joel Trachtman of Newton, MA; Jennifer Richman Toder and Jeffrey Toder of Los Angeles, CA; and Dr. Jonathan Richman and Elizabeth Richman of Southern Pines, NC; and six grandchildren Hannah, Sam and Aaron Trachtman; Ben and Charlie Toder; and Sasha Richman. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 15, 2006 at 1:30 PM in the Sanctuary of Congregation Beth Israel, 701 Farmington Ave., West Hartford 06119 with Rabbi Stephen Fuchs officiating. Interment will follow in the Beth Israel Cemetery, Avon. A memorial period will be observed at his home, 1 Kirkwood Road, West Hartford on Friday following the funeral until 5:00 PM; Saturday minyan at 7:00 PM; and Sunday from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM.
