Harry (Pop) Zelman (101) died peacefully on Wednesday, January 6, 2010. He was the husband of the late Lillian (Rosen) Zelman. Born in Nashelsk, Poland on August 20, 1908 to the late Chaim and Baila (Richman) Zelmanowitz, he came to the United States with his family through Ellis Island in 1921. Harry and Lillian were partners in life and business owning and operating Tru-Balance Shoes for over 25 years. He was a life member of the Teferes Israel and the Beth David Synagogues. More recently, he was a member and regular minyanaire of the Beth Hillel Synagogue in Bloomfield. He is survived by his children, Loraine Zelman Bernstein and her husband Martin, (Tamarac, FL), Arthur Zelman (Bloomfield) and Steven Zelman and his wife Ellen (Bloomfield). The joy of his life were his grandchildren Eric, Adam(Marje), and Marc (Patty) Blinderman, Julian Harris (Will), Amy Resnic (David), Michael Zelman, Brian Zelman (Johanna), and Rachel Sanborn (Joe). He was blessed with 15 great-grandchildren who he adored and will long remember him for their monthly ten spot when visiting with him. They are Ryan, Tyler, Katie, Madeline, Danielle, Joshua, Jacob, and Lilly Blinderman, Elijah and Talia Harris, Abigal and Benjamin Resnic, Joseph and Noah Sanborn, and Leila Zelman. In addition to his parents and wife, Lillian, he was predeceased by sisters Gussie Curry and Betty Greenspan and daughter-inlaw, Sandra Zelman.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 10, 2010 at the Beth Hillel Synagogue, 160 Wintonbury Ave., Bloomfield with Rabbi Gary Atkins and Rabbi Philip Lazowski officiating. Interment will follow at the Teferes Israel Cemetery, Wolcott Rd., off Floydville Rd., East Granby. The family will observe shiva Sunday, and 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm Monday and Tuesday at Steven and Ellen?s home in Bloomfield.
