Harvey A. Lazinsk, beloved husband of Shirley Lazinsk, died peacefully at home on November 2, 2012. In addition to his devoted wife of 61 years, his memory will live on in his four cherished children and their families–his son, Glenn Lazinsk and daughter, Marissa; his daughter Lori Chozick, her husband, Aaron, and their children, Matt, Jackie, and Annie; his daughter Kim Moretti and her husband, Les, and their sons, Bryce and Trevor; and his daughter Pam Benedict and her husband, Bruce, and their sons, Bill, Kenny, and Michael. He also leaves his brother, Mal, his wife Elaine, and their daughters, Lauren and Jennifer. Harvey was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Minnie Lazinsk.
Harvey served his country in World War II, as a soldier in the Army. Upon his return from Europe, he studied to become a junior high school English teacher. Being a teacher was much more than a career to Harvey. He cared deeply for his students and worked hard to find a way to reach each and every one. Harvey retired after 43 years in East Hartford’s Public Schools, and truly made a difference in the lives of thousands of children. Harvey was also the co-founder of the Connecticut Reading Clinic.
Harvey possessed a wonderful sense of humor. He loved playing basketball, tennis, and cards. He was a huge fan of UConn Women’s Basketball and the Boston Red Sox. Harvey was also the #1 fan of his son, Glenn’s, men’s softball team, Center Framing and Art. Harvey enjoyed spending time with his family at Old Colony Beach and his favorite vacation spot in St. Maarten.
Harvey will be dearly missed by his family; his life long friends, George Scheyd, Don Mills, and Don Ripoli; his students, especially one of his favorites, Dale Duby; his devoted caregivers, Carol and Delle; and countless others whose lives he touched.
A celebration of Harvey’s life will take place at 10:00 AM, Sunday, November 11, 2012. It will be at the Fairview Cemetery, 200 Whitman Avenue, West Hartford. Harvey’s family will be sitting Shiva on Sunday, 11/11/12, from 1-5 at the home of Lori Chozick, 15 Morton Lane, West Hartford.
