Helen D. Canter, 99, of Windham, CT, formerly of West Hartford, Branford, and Delray Beach, Florida, died Monday, August 12, 2024. Helen was predeceased by her beloved husband, “Dan the Man” to whom she was married for over 60 years. Helen was a former bridge teacher and English teacher, and later in life both Helen and Dan taught bridge on cruise ships and traveled around the world. Helen loved travel, classical music, literature, especially poetry, and Tanglewood. Helen leaves three daughters, Hope Noar and her husband Ken of Cary, North Carolina, Ruthe Canter of San Francisco, CA, and Lisa C. Taylor and her husband Russ, formerly of Mansfield, CT and now of Mancos, Colorado. Lisa and Russ have served as advocates for Helen for the past nineteen years. She also leaves five grandchildren: Scott Noar (Lisa) of Parker, Colorado, Dr. Seth Noar (Elisa Klein) of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Eric Noar (Calay Ip) of Milton, MA, Justin Taylor (Christina Peterson) of Medford, MA, and Kira Taylor (Andres Esparza) of Mancos, Colorado. Helen Leaves eight great-grandchildren: Callie, Caden, Colin, Jonah, Eva, Eliana, Ames, and Ethan. Her daughter Lisa would like to thank Douglas Manor, especially Emily and Claire for their many kindnesses to Helen over the years. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to the Douglas Manor Activity Fund/103 North Rd./Windham, CT 06280 or to the Windham Area Interfaith Ministry/866 Main Street/Willimantic, CT 06226 or a charity of donor’s choice. Arrangements will be private and at the convenience of the family.
