Helen (Singer) Max, died on Saturday, (March 10, 2007) at the Hebrew Home and Hospital in West Hartford. Born October 10, 1899 in Vienna, Austria. Her rich and active life spent three centuries. As a young girl of 18, she was hired as a bank teller by the Lander Bank of Austria, where, as a woman, she rose to a position of prominence. She was a Holocaust survivor. In 1939 she fled to England where she worked for many years as a domestic and later as an accountant for a bank in London. In the late 1950’s she joined her late sister Margarith Pick’s family in Hartford, where she worked for many years in the area, until her retirement as an accountant. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Charlotte (Gerstel) Singer. She was predeceased by her sister Margareth Pick and her brother Paul Singer. She is survived by her nephew, Harry Pick and his wife Eva; and a grandniece Judith Pick of West Hartford; and a grandnephew, Rabbi Herbert Slomo Pick and his wife Rachel, of Bne Braq, Israel, and five great grandnieces and four great-great grand nieces in Isreal. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of the Hebrew Home and Hospital for their expert and tender care of Helen during the last months of her life. Graveside services will be held TODAY at 2 p.m. at Congregation Tikvoh Chadoshoh Cemetery, Tower Ave., Hartford. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford.
