Henry was a loving and devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather. He leaves a daughter Diane Levy and her husband Dr. Steven Levy of Durham, CT. A Granddaughter Hilary Beler. 2 great grandsons Jacob Eric Beler & James David Beler of Evans, GA. He was predeceased by a beloved son, David, a sister-in-law Josephine Cohan Laflin and her husband Jack Laflin. He leaves a brother-in-law Robert Cohan who was predeceased by his wife Sally Cohan. He leaves many local nieces and nephews, Ms. Paula- Rae Cohn, Mr. & Mrs. Michael Jainchill (Linda), Dr. & Mrs. David Bernard (Jan), Ms. Jill Cohan, and Mr. Jeffrey Cohan (Jacquelyn) and many in Philadelphia and Mass.
Henry graduated Temple School of Pharmacy. He enlisted in the Navy in 1944 and served at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. There he met & married his wife Shirley-71 years ago .He later served as Chief Pharmacist Mate on an LSM off the coast of Japan.
After being discharged from the Navy he and Shirley moved to West Hartford, CT. He was the owner of the Woodland Drug Store on Farmington Ave. He eventually sold the store and became the Manager at Maxwell Drug Store and when Adams Drug took over the Maxwell stores he became the Pharmacist Supervisor of the Adams Drug Stores. After retirement in 1999 he joined the West Hartford Regents. He served as their 7th President and later as their 20th President. He received the Regents Award for Outstanding Contribution and Distinctive Service. He later became a member Emeritus .For many years he was a Patient Advocate with the State Department on Aging. He also spent time with 3 other Pharmacists lecturing on “Use & Misuse of Prescription Drugs”. He worked with the West Hartford Police on distributing the Vial of Life program to seniors .For his years of devotion to the Pharmacy profession he was honored by the Connecticut Pharmacy Association in 1951. Also in 1951 the AZO Pharmaceutical Fraternity honored him with the Sidney R. Rome Memorial Award. In 1984 he received the Hartford Courant Volunteer Award. Henry was an avid bowler and golfer and remained a very active bridge player. He especially enjoyed these activities with his wife Shirley. They traveled extensively which gave Henry a chance to pursue his photography hobby. He & Shirley moved to Madison, Ct. in 2012 where they made many friends and Henry continued to play bridge.

A Graveside Funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday,October 6, 2016 at Beth Israel Cemetery, 119 Affleck St, Hartford, CT. Rabbi Pincus will be officiating. Immediately following the graveside service the family will receive friends at 10 Vardon Rd. West Hartford, CT. In lieu of flowers Donations in Henry’s name may be made to American Cancer Society , 825 Brook Street. 1-91 Tech Center, Rocky Hill, CT 06067-340.
