Herbert David Bendell, 82, of Bloomfield passed away on Monday, (April 17, 2017). He was predeceased by his devoted wife of 56 years, Ann (Gard) Bendell. Herb was born on August 9, 1934 in Hartford, the son of Simon and Belle (Weinstein) Bendell. He was a graduate of Weaver High School, class of 1952 and was an Army veteran serving during the Korean War. Herb was a hard worker and good provider to his family, employed as a baker, a truck driver, and a salesman, but his main success was as proprietor of “Herb’s Donut Shop” in Bloomfield, where he worked alongside his soulmate, Ann. Herb was a past member of Hiram Lodge #98 A.F. & A.M. now Valley Lodge # 36 A.F. & A.M. in Simsbury, A.A.S.R. Valley of Hartford, and Sphinx Temple Shrine, A.A.O.N.M.S. in Newington, where he drove a little car in parades as part of the Motor Patrol Unit, and he was a member of the Royal Order of Jesters. Herb is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Michael and Theresa Bendell of Simsbury; his daughter and caretaker Randi Derench of FL and his son Steven Bendell of GA. Herb was also the proud “Poppy” of his grandchildren Brandon Derench of Fort Myers, FL, Tyler Derench of Burbank, CA, Sarah Bendell of Avon, CT, and Ross Bendell of Torrington, CT. He was predeceased by his sister, Alberta (Bendell) Beadle. An extra special thank you to good friend and sports buddy, Barry Mills; heartfelt thanks also to Rachel Pimpignano, his caretaker who treated Herb like one of her own. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 21, 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of The Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with Rabbi Rebekkah Goldman Mag officiating. Interment will follow in the Hartford Mutual Society Cemetery, Wolcott Rd., East Granby. A memorial period will be observed Friday-Sunday, at 96 Old Meadow Plain Road in Weatogue.
