The Honorable Howard Henry Belkin, of New Britain, age 69, died on Thursday, November 29, 2007. He graduated University of Connecticut in 1960 and UConn Law School in 1963 where he was an editor of the Law Review. Howard was an attorney in New Britain from 1963 until 2001, when he was appointed by Governor John G. Rowland as a Worker?s Compensation Commissioner for the State of Connecticut, a job that brought him great satisfaction and pleasure. He was reappointed in 2006 by Governor M. Jodi Rell. Howard lived in New Britain all of his life, a fact he was proud to share. He was an active member of the New Britain community. He was Chairman of the City Plan Commission, Chairman of the Republican Town Committee, a member of the New Britain Water Commission and the New Britain Board of Education. Howard also served on the Connecticut Republican State Central Committee. He initiated and co-chaired the We Care Golf Tournament which raises money for the CT Breast Health Initiative. He served as president and on the finance committee of the Shuttle Meadow Country Club where he enjoyed golf and playing cards. He was well known for his spontaneous jokes and story telling. He was married to Louise Platt Belkin for 45 years. She was his partner in life and his best friend. He was very proud of his sons and daughters-in-law for their accomplishments: Attorney John (Melissa) Belkin of Crested Butte, CO, and Attorney Steven (Amy) Belkin of Fairfield, CT, and the lights of his life, his two precious grandchildren, Peter and Emily. He leaves his brother, Dr. Joseph Belkin, nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and many cousins. Howard was predeceased by his father and mother, Lewis and Edith Belkin, a nephew, Laurence E. Belkin, and his sister-in-law, Margery Belkin. The funeral will be held at Congregation B?nai Sholom, 26 Church St., Newington, at 11:00 a.m on Sunday, December 2, 2007. The family will receive family and friends at the Shuttle Meadow Country Club in Kensington, CT at 12:30 p.m. The family will observe Shiva as part of the daily minyans at Congregation B?nai Sholom Sunday evening through Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The CT Breast Health Initiative, P.O.
