How well I remember babysitting for Lauri and Judy in Bloomfield, later in West Hartford. Ida was a strict and caring mother. I always thought she was a classy lady and admired her independent spirit. I hope that the wonderful memories of her comfort you at this time. My deepest sympathies at this time.

Sincerely, Angela Trent (Culleton)

Highwood Road was a special neighborhood. It was great to grow up with neighbors who were like "family" . A constant source of comfort for me was to see Ida and Harry out tending to their lawn. I always thought it was special seeing them together and watching them enjoy their task . I am sure as an adult looking back the unique part was how much they loved being together. When I rode my bike past their home or later drove my car past them I always got a warm smile and a wave. It is with my deepest condolances that I am writing this note. I pray that your family can seek comfort in each other. My thoughts are with you today. Fondly, Marci Feigenbaum Bergmann.

Mrs. Schaechter probably wouldn't remember me, but I will always remember her-- she was my math teacher during my freshman year at Hartford High back in 1992. I fell very far behind in her class after my father passed away that year, and I have always remembered how caring, understanding, helpful, and patient she was with me during that time. I heard of her passing through a friend of mine who also had her class, and I know there are many of us HPHS Owls who are very saddened by the loss of such a great teacher. I wish the family peace and comfort at this time.

I met Mrs. Schaechter briefly at Great Taste in New Britain about two weeks ago. My husband and I were eating when she and Harry came in. I spoke to Harry and she looked at me and said, "I'm Ida." That was the only time I met her and thought that was very nice of her. I'm sorry for what happened.

Ida was our "little lady" here at Hillyer. We miss her and wish her family to know how very much we respected and appreciated who she was and her commitment to well-being of others.

I have very fond memories of having Professor Schaechter as my freshman year math teacher. Even though I knew all of the stuff she was teaching she still made sure that I passed the with excellent grades. She will surely be missed by many of her past students.

I mourn the sudden and tragic loss of Ida Schaechter, a neighbor and friend of mine and my family's for decades on High Wood Road. Unfailingly warm, enthusiastic, energetic, and vibrant, Ida brought great joy to everyone who knew her. My deepest sympathies go out to Harry, Judi, and Lauren and their families.
