Jack A. Goldberg, 85, of Byron Drive, Avon, formerly of New Britain, died Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington. Born in New Britain, he was the son of the late William and Ida (Pedro) Goldberg. Jack attended New York University before he served in the US Army during World War II. He was stationed in Europe and received the Purple Heart having been wounded in the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, he returned to New Britain to operate the family business, Goldberg?s Department Store in New Britain and Southington. The business later became Security Uniforms, which he continued to operate until he retired. Jack was a member of Temple B?nai Israel of New Britain. He leaves his wife, Beatrice (Weinberg) Goldberg; his daughter, Miriam G. Lappen of West Hartford; his son, Steven Goldberg and his wife Susanne of Boca Raton, FL; his four grandchildren, Michelle and Sara Lappen, and Michael and Zachary Goldberg; and two sisters, Rose Goldberg of West Hartford, and Shirley Gottlieb and her husband Seymour of Avon. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 8, 2006 at 11:00 AM at Temple B?nai Israel, 265 West Main St., New Britain with Rabbi Marshal Press officiating. Interment will follow in Beth Alom Cemetery, New Britain. A memorial period will be observed at his home, 14 Byron Drive, Avon, Friday following the funeral, Saturday evening, and Sunday afternoon and evening.
