It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jack H. Epstein, 91, who died at home in Sarasota, FL on July 27, 2024. He was born on March 24, 1933, in New Britain, CT the son of the late Herman and Goldie (Sackrowitz) Epstein. He graduated from New Britain Sr. High and earned a BS degree from Teachers College of CT, now known as Central CT State University followed by a Masters Degree from the University of Hartford with additional studies at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.Jack served proudly in the US Marine Corps (1953-1956) and he taught for 40 years, primarily in the New Britain, CT school system. He was a member of the Marine Corps League and The Jewish War Veterans. He was the founder with his wife, Harleen, along with family and friends of The Julie Merle Epstein Cancer Fund. He was formerly a resident of Bristol, West Hartford, Bloomfield, and Avon, CT, where he also built and remodeled homes.
Jack leaves behind his beloved wife Harleen (Solomon) Epstein who he was married to for over 65 years, two sons, Michael, wife Dr. Alyssa Horowitz, of Bedminster, NJ; Keith, wife Kathryn, of W. Simsbury, CT; four grandchildren, Sophia of Austin, TX; Jake of San Francisco, CA; Jonathan of Fernandina Beach, FL; Anna, husband Nathan Mitchell, of W. Simsbury, CT; and a great-grandson, Owen Mitchell; Brother Irving Epstein, Bonita Springs FL and numerous treasured nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Jack was predeceased by his daughter, Julie Merle Epstein; his sisters: Ray Ruth Rivkin, Shirley Piasek, and his brother, George Epstein. A graveside service was held on August 1, at Beth Alom Cemetery, New Britain, CT. Arrangements were made by Weinstein Funeral Home with Rabbi Phillip Lazowski officiating.
